ALERT: All city pools & The Center’s indoor pool remain closed due to unsafe air quality; no outdoor events are scheduled (07/17/2026)

Last updated Jul 16, 2026

The National Weather Service (NWS) and the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) have extended the Statewide Air Quality Alert for Friday, July 17, 2026. Outdoor conditions remain unsafe, and residents are advised to stay indoors.

As a result, all pools in the city, including The Center's indoor pool, are closed today. There are no outdoor Parks and Recreation events scheduled in Dearborn at this time.

Smoke from the Canadian wildfires continues to degrade air quality across Michigan. Air quality has reached the Public Health 'hazardous' level for the second consecutive day, making the air unsafe for everyone. Residents are advised to stay indoors and use air conditioning when possible, limit prolonged or strenuous outdoor activity, and watch for symptoms such as wheezing, coughing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, dizziness, or burning eyes, nose, or throat. Seek medical attention if any symptoms become severe.

The city will continue to monitor the health and safety of the community and staff, and will share updates as they arise.
