Mayor Abdullah H. Hammoud and the City of Dearborn have made preparations to top off fuel reserves throughout the city to maintain and sustain municipal services in response to growing vulnerabilities in global supply chains and potential instability.
To better prepare for potential service and other disruptions, the city has gathered supplies citywide for municipal vehicles, buildings, and operations to continue to provide service through events such as grid failures, fuel rationing, or supply disruptions.
Mayor Hammoud stated, “The federal government’s disastrous foreign policy decisions have caused immeasurable harm to working families across the country. It has now promised to restart a military campaign, in spite of the objections of the American public, which could trigger further critical fuel shortages. We know that building local community resilience requires systematic preparation and have therefore taken steps to top off our fuel reserves.”
Hammoud has taken measures to ensure reserves and continuous operations for emergency service vehicles, public transit, snow removal fleets, and critical municipal infrastructure during unforeseen events.
By securing essential energy stocks early, the city frames local community resilience not as reactive panic, but as a disciplined, systematic preparation for potential electrical grid failures, fuel rationing, or wider disruptions.
The fuel stock could cost the City up to $50,000 in emergency funds, depending on the amount filled.
