Dearborn marks milestone with grand opening of third PEACE Park

Published June 4, 2026

Mayor Abdullah H. Hammoud on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, marked the grand opening of the City of Dearborn’s third Park Equity and Access for Civil Engagement (PEACE) Park. The Southend Dearborn greenspace is the third of the newly constructed parks to open to the public under the PEACE Project, a $29.2 million grant-funded investment into the city’s public parks, green infrastructure, and existing outdoor facilities.

The City began construction of PEACE Park South in September of 2024. The new park is located at 1911 Salina St.

The completion of all three PEACE Parks, and the overall investment in several city parks and recreation facilities is part of Mayor Hammoud’s vision for a greener, more connected, and sustainable city.

Mayor Hammoud stated, “In 2023, we embarked on a journey to invest in the most monumental transformation of our city’s natural resources—its green spaces—and broke ground on our first PEACE Park in West Dearborn, followed by PEACE Park East. Today, we celebrate the grand opening of our third and final park in Dearborn’s Southend, completing a network of connected spaces that will serve as vibrant centerpieces across our city’s iconic neighborhoods.”

The opening of PEACE Park South will offer residents, businesses, and visitors comprehensive recreational and green spaces with public amenities, including:

  • A community and organizational league basketball court
  • A junior soccer field
  • Two pickleball courts
  • A comprehensive bioswale system
  • A Garden Walk

The Dearborn Garden Walk is designed to be a community space for gatherings, reflection, and recreation. Its labyrinth is landscaped for year-round appeal, along with a granite-furnished folly—a scenic focal point for social interaction and relaxation.

In addition, the seven interconnected bioswales are designed to naturally manage stormwater while creating a healthier ecological environment. These underground systems collect and filter rainwater to help prevent flooding, reduce runoff, and support long term environmental sustainability throughout the park.

Hammoud added, “We are excited to welcome every Dearborn resident and visitor to PEACE Park South, a beautiful and inclusive space built to bring our community together, protect our environment, and help our city thrive.”

Imagine Design & Build is responsible for the design and build of all new PEACE parks in Dearborn.
