Dearborn accepts nominations for the 2025-2026 Veteran of the Year award

The City of Dearborn and the Dearborn Allied War Veterans Council (DAWVC) are now accepting nominations for the 2025-2026 Dearborn Veteran of the Year award. The award is presented each Veterans Day on November 11 to a veteran judged to have made a significant contribution to the Dearborn community and towards veterans' interests at the City of Dearborn’s annual Veterans Day Ceremony. Nominations will be accepted through Friday, Oct. 24, 2025. 

Nominees must have membership in a veteran’s organization that is part of the Dearborn Allied War Veterans Council (DAWVC), complete voluntary community service, and participate in work on behalf of veterans’ causes. Nominees are not required to be Dearborn residents. 

The 2025-2026 nomination form is available online at Dearborn.gov/Veterans and at the Dearborn Administrative Center (DAC), 16901 Michigan Ave. Completed forms may be emailed to Veterans@Dearborn.gov or dropped off at the DAC by the Oct. 24 deadline.

The 2025 Veteran of the Year award will be presented during the City’s annual Veterans Day ceremony scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 11.

About the 2024-2025 Dearborn Veteran of the Year

Army veteran Robert Amenson was recognized by the City of Dearborn and the DAWVC as the 2024-2025 Dearborn Veteran of the Year at the City’s Veterans Day Ceremony.

He has dedicated his life to serving veterans and his community. Amenson, an active member of the American Legion Fort Dearborn Post 267 and the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 267, has over 7,500 hours of volunteer service at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Ann Arbor.
